Trans7 berdiri dengan
nama TV7 sahamnya sebagian besar dimiliki oleh Kompas
Gramedia (KG) dan 12% dimiliki Bakrie & Brothers (perusahaan
konglomerat milik Aburizal Bakrie yang memiliki antv). Pada tanggal 25 November
2001 keberadaanTV7 telah diumumkan dalam Berita Negara sebagai PT Duta
Visual Nusantara Tivi Tujuh. Logo TV7 Sendiri diartikan sebagai simbol dari
“JO” yang merupakan singkatan dari Jakob Oetama, Pemilik TV7.
Pada 4 Agustus 2006, Para Group melalui PT Trans Corpora resmi
membeli 55% saham PT Duta Visual Nusantara Tivi Tujuh. Jakob Oetama
sebagai Presiden Direktur Kompas Gramedia juga menyetujui kerjasama
dengan Trans TV karena adanya kesamaan kultur yang dipegang oleh
kedua belah pihak, yakni adanya kesamaan antara visi dan misinya. Proses
kerjasama pun berlangsung dengan cepat yang diikuti oleh Rapat Umum Pemegang
Saham pada hari yang sama.
